On May 15, 1989, the first group of EBS students arrived in Toronto – mid-level business people who had their first practical and theoretical encounter with capitalism through York University. To achieve this, the Estonian community in Toronto raised over a quarter of a million dollars for the educational bridge and to support the students. In May 2024, exactly 35 years later, representatives of the International Estonian Centre gathered in Tallinn to look back on the beginning of EBS and introduce the KESKUS project located in Toronto.
At the end of the wisdom month, it is a good time to remind you that if you want to enhance your knowledge, learn something new, pursue a microdegree, or simply enjoy learning, everything is still possible with us. Choose the path that suits you, and you are always welcome back here!
Dear fellow alumnus!
This spring brought me back to EBS. For me, it was a step forward, bringing along the experiences and the network acquired in the meantime to support what is truly close to my heart – providing entrepreneurship education.
Did you know that EBS offers the opportunity to rent rooms for events, trainings, meetings, or other occasions? We provide various classrooms, meeting rooms, and studios that have been recently renovated and equipped with the latest technology.
In May of this year, Norstat Estonia conducted an alumni survey among you, which this time proved to be a very necessary input for improving EBS’s curricula. This academic year already began with a significant change in the MBA curriculum, where we updated the content of marketing courses and involved external partners to introduce new digital marketing trends. Based on your feedback, we plan to further develop the curricula. Thus, in 2025, an updated Executive MBA program and two innovative MBA specializations focusing on digital product management and startup entrepreneurship will be launched.
September 21 marks Madisepäev, a special day for the EBS community, as it’s the name day of the founder of EBS, Madis Habakuk. For the past 19 years, EBSters have gathered on this day for a traditional golf tournament. This year’s event was held on an unusually warm and sunny Saturday for September. The tournament welcomed high school students from EBS, university students, alumni from different graduating classes, lecturers, and entrepreneurial friends of EBS. A record number of participants turned up, with 62 golfers competing across 16 teams.
This summer, we started collaborating with kood/Jõhvi: from this fall, kood/Jõhvi alumni can continue their studies with us and obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in just two years. Starting from the fall of 2025, EBS undergraduate students (specializing in software development) will receive programming instruction at kood/Jõhvi.
Looking at what is happening in Estonia and the world, the key question is how to remain optimistic. With the backdrop of wars around the world and the economic downturn in Estonia, it is easy to fall into the trap of negativity. However, negativity feeds more negativity.
